On February 25, 2020, Texas PTA will address the country’s deadly vaping crisis and its impact on today’s youth with a special panel discussion at the Texas Capitol. “Straight Talk: A Matter of Life and Breath” will serve as a platform to hear from the many people on the front lines of this issue – from parents and youth activists to doctors and leaders in state research and prevention. "Straight Talk" will be broadcast live on the Texas PTA Facebook page beginning at 12:00 noon. An archived recording will remain up on the page.

AHS new Consent Lesson
We at Austin High School know that personal safety, mental health, and well-being are necessary for our students to be successful, satisfied, and achieve their academic potential. This spring, we will be providing lessons in the classroom about consent as it relates to interpersonal relationships. Because we understand that this may be a topic that you prefer to speak to your child about at home, we are giving you the opportunity to opt out of this lesson. Copies of the lessons may be viewed in the Austin High main office at your request. After reviewing the lesson, if you DO NOT wish your child to participate in the interpersonal consent lessons, you may complete an opt out form in the main office.
Online registration is now open for the 2020-21 school year. All returning students must complete required online registration each year. Austin High is frozen to transfers. The annual online registration process helps us determine space for applications. Please see below the important link from AISD to register for the 2020-21 school year:
Families may begin registering new or returning students online for the 2020–21 school year. To register, log in to the Parent Cloud and find the Student Registration tile through Parent Self-Serve
Please submit photos for the Baccalaureate slideshow by MAY 1st! Each senior may submit 5 photos from their high school years. No photos will be accepted after May 1st as the slideshow will be in production as of the following day.
Senior year is quickly approaching! We need your help to make sure it’s the best year EVER for our kids. It takes roughly $50K to host Senior Breakfast, Prom, Baccalaureate and Project Graduation and we still need $20K to fund all these events. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the class Booster or pledged a yearly contribution that will help ensure all senior events are covered. If you have not yet contributed or missed a yearly contribution, there’s still time!
If you have questions concerning class Booster or how you can get involved next year, please email Brandy Reimers at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Maroon Society: Each spring, a handful of Austin High seniors are selected as the newest members of the Maroon Society, an honor roll of students who have contributed to the Austin High community with their service, commitment, and example of what it means to be Loyal Forever. This distinction recognizes students who go above and beyond, and a small scholarship will be awarded to each recipient. Applications are available online at sfalibrary.org and copies are available for pickup in the library, due before Spring Break. All graduating seniors are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Safetyis a top priority at Austin High. It's important to remember to take drills and safety lessons seriously so that we are prepared in case of an emergency. Each month, schools are required to complete drills. As February is a short month, we have several drills that are due this week. As always, we appreciate your support of the entire Austin High School community.

Congrats to the following singers and pianists on their 1st Div rating last Saturday! Singers have been invited to the Texas State choir Solo and Ensemble contest
...and a very special "good luck" to the Austin High School Choir as they perform in the Pre Uil concert and Sight Reading evaluation this Thursday at the AISD PAC.
Singers have been singing and sight reading all year for this first contest. We wish you well!
The Austin HS Media Arts Program is pleased to announce that the short narrative movie "Opal" will be included in the UIL Film State Final Program on February 25, 2020 at 7 pm at the Paramount Theater. Over 220 narrative short movies were submitted in our division from across the state of Texas and the state final program will show the top six movies. We are very proud of our accomplishment so far. Last year, in UIL Film, Austin HS won the State Championship for documentary and Third Place for narrative.
If you can't come out to watch it on Tuesday 2/25/20, you can see it using this link:
At Saturday's Academic UIL meet at Lampasas High School, Clayton Kocurek placed 6th in Calculator Apps and Shea Seeds placed 5th in Calculator Apps! Both students have received medals! Our biggest meet is this weekend. Districts are March 28th. The Nerd Herd (formerly known as Math Club) is looking for people wanting to compete in Current Events, Social Studies, and Literary Criticism. See Miss Mardi, Rebecca Jackson, Noah Joseph or Wini Dorlean for more information.

Hey Hey Austin High! Academic UIL season is starting! We have 4 meets to make our selections for our District Competitors! All locations, dates, and competitions are linked at Ms. Mardi's website (click on each date to see times and details). Our District Meet (for which they are qualifying) is March 28, 2020. All competitors who compete at the state level become eligible for scholarships.
Students *must* join the Math Club Remind (text @mc20smardi to 81010) so that they can communicate with other competitors and Ms. Mardi. [There is a separate math club parent remind (text mcpahs20 to 81010). Parents, please do not join the Math Club Remind, as that tends to cause some crazy confusion.]
