AHS Fundraising 101

Fundraising at the high school level can be confusing and parents may feel like they are repeatedly being asked for money.  The reason for the complexity is a result of there being several non-profits working within the school.  Combining funds is not allowed based on rules laid out by the IRS, State of Texas, Austin ISD, and Texas PTA that define how we handle money.  Take a look below to understand all the options for supporting our school so you can decide how you want to allocate your donations.

Parent Teacher Student Association
(Check payable to "AHS PTSA" or online at the PTSA Website)

The Parent Teacher Student Association supports the entire Austin High community.  You can support the PTSA by purchasing a membership, making a designated donation, participating in rewards programs, and purchasing spirit wear. The primary PTSA fundraiser is the All In for Austin High parent party in the spring that supports the Austin High Excellence Fund.  This fund provides teacher and staff grants that create an outstanding educational experience for ALL AHS students.

The school will raise money also.  Unlike middle and elementary schools, AHS rarely raises money at the 'total school' level.  Instead funds are raised for specific organizations.  Money raised supplements the budgets provided by AISD (if any) and helps meets the needs of the students when funds are unavailable via other means.  Please note, PTSA and school funds cannot be comingled. Although funds can be transferred between the two entities, it is difficult and requires tons of extra documentation.
ACADEMIES:
  • ANNUAL PROGRAM FEE:  Each student pays a fee at the beginning of the school year.
  • COMMUNITY PARTNERS:  Each academy raises funds through campaigns in the fall.
CLASS BOOSTERS: Each class raises funds during their four years to pay for senior year activities.
ATHLETIC BOOSTERS:  Each sport raises funds to support their programs.
CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS:  Each club and organization raises funds to support their programs.

SFA Society

The Stephen F. Austin Society was established in 2002 to provide financial support for all extracurricular activities at Austin High.  The Society holds ONE fundraising event each year in late summer/early fall and grant all the net funds raised to athletic, academic, and other UIL activities on campus.

Visit the SFA Society website for more information.

The AHS Endowment Fund

The Endowment is held at the Austin Community Foundation (ACF).  Only Endowment INCOME (interest on the balance of the endowment) is distributed.  Additionally, funds are distributed by the vote of the Austin High Excellence Fund committee and only if needs arise.
